Quebec City – Le Dagobert

It’s a Quebec institution, held at the legendary Dagobert nightclub.

Thousands of people… it’s impossible to talk about that era without thinking of the legendary Pinch of Love parties. Moustaches, sunglasses, neon colours, leopard print and looks straight out of the 1980s: for one night, bad taste became a real source of pride! Pinch of Love drew huge crowds and transformed the Dagobert and the Grande Allée into one massive retro party. People went there to dance, laugh, show off their outfits… and, above all, to experience a night they’d be talking about for a long time to come.

I was lucky enough to be invited there as the evening’s performer –

Autograph Cards

It's all part of being an artist: taking selfies and signing autograph cards.

Early in my career, I had thousands of autograph cards printed.

To me, a simple signature on a scrap of paper didn't do justice to the appreciation my audience showed me. People had paid for their tickets, sometimes waited a long time to meet me, and I felt it was a shame for them to leave with nothing more than a sheet of paper that would inevitably end up getting lost.

I wanted to give them a genuine keepsake—a high-quality autograph card they could treasure for years to come.

I wanted to give them something they could truly cherish—a beautifully crafted autograph card they would be proud to keep for years to come.

Here are all the autograph cards I have used over the years to sign this dedication for you.

Sometimes I spend two hours signing autographs, even though the show itself only lasts an hour! And of course, it's something I truly enjoy.

Book signing at the Ribeauvillé Casino

Every autograph is much more than just a signature.

Book signings in Saint Pierre, Réunion

Taking the time to sign an autograph card, take a selfie, chat for a few moments, and see the smiles on people's faces is one of the greatest rewards of what I do.

Thank you to everyone who comes to my shows for your loyalty, your enthusiasm, and the precious moments we share together. I look forward to seeing you again very soon!

My first TV!

It was 2 December 1994! Having just finished my A-levels, I didn’t know anyone in the industry. I was funding my studies with my student «job»: playing in nightclubs every weekend (sometimes two or three times a weekend).

One day, Frédéric Lopez, who was also a very young journalist at the time (working for France 2 on the programme *Terre Inconnue*), rang me on the home landline to ask me to appear on his programme *La Vie d’Ici*, a talk show on TLM (a Lyon-based channel).

On arrival, I met about 15 lookalikes, who belong to the »lookalike club» of the Queen of England, Mrs Funfrock, who was very well known at the time (films, TV). .

I wasn’t part of her circle – and I never have been – but I must admit that that world intrigued me. I would have liked to have been part of it to give my fledgling career a boost. Unfortunately, she never rang me…

But… But the day after the programme was broadcast, two talent agents asked TLM for my number and rang me at home! One of them was none other than Michel Rostaing, a singer-songwriter and, five years later, Eve Angéli’s manager. Michel managed me for a good four years!

But also Didier L., who sent me to my first works council meetings (NOVOTEL, etc.).

TLM takes me to La Part Dieu, which is a real challenge for me, as it’s very crowded, and I’m surrounded by bodyguards and assistants, plus two cameras (very large, old-fashioned cameras). It’s a nice bit of theatre – they’ve really gone all out for the joke….

I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to Frédéric Lopez for inviting me to sit at this table, opposite him. I didn’t have any dancers at the time. They rang a dance school to arrange for some to join me on set. It was great.

I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in this adventure, including Frédéric Lopez, and all the lookalikes who took part (Sandy Sims, Maryline, Henri Giraud, Coluche, my mates), and of course Michel Rostaing for all the laughs we had on tour.

To the Eiffel Tower!

The Eiffel Tower is Paris’s most iconic monument. Designed by the engineer Gustave Eiffel, it was opened in 1889 to mark the World’s Fair.

Standing 330 metres tall including its antenna, it was for many years the tallest structure in the world. Today, it welcomes several million visitors every year and offers an exceptional panoramic view of the French capital. A symbol of France, it is recognised throughout the world.

Performing at the Eiffel Tower was one of the most significant moments of my career. That evening, I had the privilege of being given a private tour of the Tower after it had closed, once it had been cleared of its thousands of daily visitors.

It’s very strange to take the service lift – reserved for the Tower’s technicians – in astonishing silence, 300 metres above Paris.

Arrival at 8.00 pm. Rehearsals at 8.30 pm. Performance at 10.30 pm

In the Gustave Eiffel lounge, which serves as a reception hall, a stage is set up for me. The control room overlooks the hall. .

A red box is planned, accessible via a red spiral staircase… Everything is »Eiffel Tower red»… In reality, it’s the reddish-brown colour specific to the Tower. A coat of paint weighing 60 tonnes on the Iron Lady!

I was given a book about its history, and a few hours later I left THE quintessential French monument. .

Behind the Scene

A France 3 crew followed us during a performance in Lyon. Journalist F. Llop wanted to show the work that goes on behind the scenes, how I felt before a show, and the...

Ben Jackson's make-up for a television programme

This report does not try to sell the idea of a “Michael Jackson lookalike.” In fact, I explain what I think of that term, as well as of the much-overused expression “official lookalike,” which, in my opinion, is meaningless. The only people I consider official are those who worked directly with Michael Jackson, particularly as stand-ins during the filming of his music videos.

Interview with Ben Jack'son on France 3

Above all, the report shows that we devote an enormous amount of time, energy, and passion to bringing Michael Jackson’s work back to life. The journalist avoids sensationalism and instead chooses to highlight the work, preparation, and commitment required to put on such a show.

Despite the pressure of the rehearsal schedule and getting the entire show ready, I greatly appreciated this team of journalists’ approach.

They never pressured me to answer their questions.

Very often, they simply followed me with their camera to capture footage without saying a word, allowing the images to tell the story on their own.

I later learned that this was a genuine journalistic technique known as “no comment”: carefully crafted images capable of telling the whole story without a single word.

Dirty Diana Remake

I interpret Dirty Diana, one of Michael Jackson’s most iconic songs.

This music video was directed and produced by French filmmaker David DLR and filmed at Studio 51 in Paris.

I have always followed one rule without exception: I refuse to make a music video for any song that Michael Jackson himself never turned into a video.

“Dirty Diana” is one of the few songs to have received an official music video, which made this project possible. The challenge was simple: to dance in one place and use a few lighting and camera effects throughout the entire song, without any sets.

David DLR’s aim was not to recreate the original music video, but to offer his own personal interpretation while preserving the song’s intensity, elegance, and energy.

You can imagine how long it took to shoot this music video: from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., filming various shots, sometimes without a break.

I truly enjoyed watching this small three-person team, all from the world of cinema, at work.

Here’s the video:

Dr Pepper!

Did you know? Long before Pepsi, Michael was promoting Dr Pepper, a soft drink that's just a few months older than Coca-Cola.

It's also my favorite soft drink. It's harder to find than Coca-Cola, but it's slightly sweeter.

The song **“Blame It on the Boogie”** was released in 1977 on the *Destiny* album. In 1979, Michael, already a talented businessman, signed a promotional campaign with his father Joe Jackson for the soft drink **Dr Pepper**. He even changed the lyrics of his song for the brand — something he would later do again for Pepsi with **“Billie Jean”** and **“Bad.”**

SEARCH PUMA

A call to Michael Jackson fans and the general public!

No, I’m not looking for a wild animal!

I’m searching for a true collector’s piece: the **Puma “Dance-Floor Shoes – Michael Jackson”**. These iconic black shoes were specially designed for Michael Jackson’s **Bad Tour** and featured in a **Bravo magazine** competition in 1987.

Here is an article from the German magazine Bravo.

I have been collecting Michael Jackson memorabilia for many years, and owning this pair of shoes would be a dream come true. It would be an exceptional collector’s piece and the true centerpiece of my collection.

If you have any information about this pair, know a former contest winner, a collector who might own them, or have any idea where they could be found, I would be incredibly grateful for your help. Every lead would mean a lot to me.

Thank you to all the fans and collectors for your support.

Back when I used to share the stage with Alliage, G-Squad and Ultimate Kaos.

The 1990s were an extraordinary period in my career. It was a time when entertainment reigned supreme, when social media didn’t exist, when people went out to shows precisely to socialise…

I was lucky enough to perform in front of thousands of spectators and share the stage with some of the biggest boy bands of the time

June 1997 – Chassieu: a concert attended by 20,000 people featuring G-Squad

In June 1997, in Chassieu, in front of a crowd of nearly 20,000, on the RMC stage (and thanks to Gérard Sibelle – RMC’s promotion director), I shared the stage with G-Squad, France’s first major boy band.

The band at that time consisted of Chris Keller, Gérald Jean-Laurent, Marlon, Mika and Andrew McCarthy.

At that time, their hits «Raide dingue de toi» and «Aucune fille au monde» were all the rage amongst young fans, and the G-Squad phenomenon was at its peak. I’m still looking for the photo I took backstage with them. I remember them telling me they loved Michael Jackson – they were all big fans of his – just a few days before Michael Jackson’s concert at the Stade de Gerland in Lyon on 25 June. In fact, MJ’s concert was due to take place in Chassieu, at that same huge venue, which could hold more people than the Gerland Stadium.

1998 – Trévoux: a meeting with the British band Ultimate Kaos

The following year, I performed in Trévoux alongside the British band Ultimate Kaos.

The band consists of Haydon Eshun, Jomo Baxter, Ryan Elliott, Nick Grant and Jayde Spence.

True stars of the British pop scene, they went on to score one hit after another with songs such as «Casanova» and «Hoochie Booty».

1999 – Culin (Isère): ‘La Nuit des Vacances’ featuring Alliage in front of 10,000 people

In 1999, I rediscovered the incredible atmosphere of major public events at the ‘Nuit des Vacances’ in Culin, in Isère, organised by Pascal Deny.

In front of nearly 10,000 people, I share the stage with Alliage, one of the most popular French boy bands of the decade.

The band consists of Quentin Elias, Steven Gunnell, Roman Lata Ares and Brian Torres.

Their hits «Baïla», «Lucy» and «Le temps qui court» had a whole generation singing along.

These memories remain etched in my mind. Sharing the stage with these artists and performing in front of tens of thousands of people was a unique experience that has undeniably shaped my career.

Matt Pokora

In 2004, I had the opportunity to perform my show in Isère, as part of Pascal Deny’s ‘Nuit des Vacances’.

That evening, the up-and-coming band Linkup were on their summer tour, travelling all over France.

Backstage, one of them comes over to say hello: it’s Matt Pokora. He’s really friendly, polite and respectful. We laugh, we joke around, we talk about football, Strasbourg and, of course, Michael Jackson.

Matt Pokora will be performing on 6 September at the Villars-les-Dombes Bird Park

On 11 September at the Halle Tony Garnier in Lyon

NORWAY

The Norwegian tour was a long one.

Amongst these dates, we were invited to play at the magnificent STORSTOVA hall in Bryne on the west coast of Norway.

Storstova is a sort of Norwegian Olympia. It’s a lovely venue that has put on a very culturally rich programme in recent years.

The journey takes you by plane and minibus through some incredible scenery.

PORTRAIT GALLERY

Over all these years spent on stage, I've had the good fortune to meet many celebrities.

Some with whom I've collaborated by supporting their opening acts, others met on television sets, and still others who simply invited me to participate in their own projects.

I am sometimes asked if I was impressed when I met them.

Not really.

To be honest, the people who have impressed me most in my life have not necessarily been celebrities, but complete unknowns who excelled in their field with passion, talent, and humility.

Nevertheless, I have always been struck by the simplicity of some immense American celebrities. Despite their worldwide fame, they behaved with a humility and simplicity that commanded respect.

I invite you to discover this portrait gallery enhanced with new, forgotten photos from my archives.

Enjoy your visit

Another June 25th.

Michael Jackson

I still clearly remember the moment I learned of Michael Jackson’s passing. It was a Thursday evening, I was at a restaurant with friends who were fans when the news broke. My phone was constantly receiving text messages. I didn’t understand what was happening. Like many people, I will never forget that moment. I immediately rushed home

It was a Thursday evening, I was at a restaurant with some superfan friends when the news broke.

My phone was receiving text messages non-stop. I didn't understand.

Like many people, I will never forget that moment. I immediately rushed home to follow the news on television. I watched the news channels all night, without sleeping, hoping until the very end that it was a mistake or that some good news would contradict the initial reports. Unfortunately, as the hours passed, the reality became undeniable.

Today, 17 years later, that date remains etched in our memories. Every June 25 reminds us how exceptional an artist Michael Jackson was, whose legacy continues to inspire and make millions of people around the world dream.

A very rare video for this special occasion: the duet between Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston on “One Day in Your Life” for the 30th Anniversary in 2001 at Madison Square Garden. A performance that was ultimately cancelled at the last minute.
